UPDATE–VOTE RESULTS

The University Senate approved all nine motions under consideration at the November 3, 2025 meeting. A summary of the vote results is available here.

The annual University Senate Meeting will take place on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 3:15 to 5:00 pm. This annual meeting is open for all ~7,800 members of the Faculty Senate to participate. The full Faculty Senate (the University Senate), generally only meets once per year and is distinct from the Faculty Senate’s 77-member, elected Senate Assembly.

The event will be both in person and virtual. The physical location will be in University Hall, Alexander G. Ruthven Building, 1109 Geddes Ave, Room 2000, Ann Arbor, MI. Anyone who would like to attend (physically or virtually) is invited to register using the link provided below.

ASL Interpreters and CART transcriptions will be available for the entirety of the event.

This event is open to both the University of Michigan community and to the community at large. Please note that only current members of the Faculty Senate will be able to speak during the meeting.

Pursuant to University Senate rules, the deadline for faculty member submissions of motions or resolutions for consideration was October 20th. During the meeting, only motions submitted within that deadline, or motions of a procedural nature, will be considered. All of the motions submitted within the deadline have been included on the agenda.

Meeting Agenda Summary
(full agenda below)

Remarks on Motions

All Faculty Senate members were invited to request an opportunity to be a scheduled speaker by Thursday, October 30 at 12:00 pm. All the faculty who requested to speak have now been added to the full agenda below as a scheduled speaker. After the scheduled speakers, the floor will open for general discussion.

To ensure that everyone at the meeting (Zoom and in-person) has equal access to comments, there will not be Zoom chat. However, written comments on the motions may be submitted using this Google form until 5pm on November 4th. All written comments will be publicly available through a Google sheet.

Video responses may be emailed to the Faculty Senate Office ([email protected]). Any recorded video statements will be added to a publicly available Google folder for video responses.

Due to the limited amount of time available to discuss these motions during the meeting, members are encouraged to use the Google form to submit written comments or to submit video statements.

Voting on Motions

Electronic voting on the motions listed on the agenda below will commence after the meeting at 5:30 pm. When the ballot opens, all Faculty Senate members will be emailed an invitation to vote at vote.umich.edu. Voting will remain open for 72 hours until Thursday, November 6, at 5:30 pm.

Important Notice About Electronic Voting on Procedural Motions During the Meeting
Please note that, in order to vote on additional procedural motions during the meeting, you will need a smartphone or laptop capable of navigating to vote.umich.edu during Monday’s meeting. While there may be no need for a procedural vote during Monday’s meeting, please come prepared with a smartphone or laptop if you are attending in person.
