STRIKE! is a 2-day teach-in commemorating the 55th anniversary of the Black Action Movement (BAM) Strike. We will consider lessons from the history of social justice and anti-racism activism at our University.
- Days: Monday, March 24th & Tuesday, March 25th
- Location: University of Michigan School of Social Work, room 1840
- Times and topics: The teach-in begins at 10am each day, with a new session every 90 minutes. Session times correspond with class times, to enable faculty to bring their classes to the teach-in. (You can find more information about times and topics here.)
- Ways to attend: All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to drop in whenever you can make it! If you’re a faculty member, please consider bringing your class to a session that fits with your class time.
Topics: Interactive presentations will discuss the 1970 BAM strike, the BAM II and BAM III protests, the Being Black at U-M campaign that led to the building of the new Trotter Center, the history of affirmative action and racial representation at U-M, and the Student of Color Coalition Tower Takeover protesting Michiguama. There will also be a film screening and a hands-on political art workshop! The Monday session will close with an Iftar meal.
