FACULTY ON-CAMPUS WORK RETREATS
Sign up for a two-hour work session, followed by hot lunch with colleagues. The Faculty On-Campus Work Retreats offer a quiet space to work with other scholars and artists, and an opportunity for you to prioritize your research / creative work by committing to one or two work sessions before teaching, service, and email take over the semester. Lunch, after the work session, is a chance to share interests and work with other colleagues, to learn about each others’ research, to grow professional and social networks, and to experience the University as a collective.
This series of Work Retreats are open to all ~7,600 members of the Faculty Senate, including tenure-track professors, lecturers, research faculty, clinical faculty, librarians, archivists, and curators. The series was developed by the Faculty Senate Office, is supported by the Office of the Provost, and is co-sponsored by History of Art Librarian Deirdre Spencer and Art History Librarian Jamie Vander Broek.
In the Winter 2025 semester, the retreats officially run from 10-1 (10-12 for quiet work time and 12-1 for lunch) but, based on faculty feedback, faculty are also welcome to arrive at 9am to get in an extra hour of work (and enjoy coffee, tea, and breakfast snacks). You’re welcome to arrive early, any time after 9am.

What happens during a Faculty On-Campus Work Retreat?
Faculty On-Campus Work Retreats will be held from 10am – 1pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays at the end of each month. The concept is simple. Reserve a seat, bring whatever you need, and quietly work alongside your U-M colleagues for two hours, from 10am-12pm. Enjoy tea, coffee and pastries during the work session. A hot lunch will be served at noon.
How often will the Faculty On-Campus Work Retreats be offered?
We’re offering six sessions this Fall and six in Winter 2025.
How many Faculty On-Campus Work Retreats can I sign up for?
Please sign up for one or two fall retreats to allow other faculty opportunities to join. If we have openings in sessions two weeks before the events, we’ll send emails inviting you to sign up for a third spot.
