Innovate Brew

WHAT IS INNOVATE BREW?

Innovate Brew, originally created by Ross Professor Bill Lovejoy, was based on analysis showing that innovation happens when “people combine ideas that most would not consider putting together,” such as a business school professor talking to a classics professor, or an economist speaking to an art historian. The goal is that, when people are relaxed and in uncompetitive environments, meetings stimulate conversations that might, eventually, lead to innovative research collaborations. At the same time, this program simultaneously enables enjoyable conversations and gives faculty members a stronger sense of community at The University of Michigan.

FAQs

How does Innovate Brew Work?

Once a month, the Faculty Senate Office randomly pairs all registered, participating faculty members. On the first Monday of the month, faculty members receive an email from the office introducing their new Innovate Brew partner of the month. From that point, it is up to the participants to schedule a meeting time, pay for coffee, and plan the trajectory of their conversations!

Once every few months, the Faculty Senate Office will reach out to gage how often participants meet, how satisfying they found the program, and what recommendations the participating faculty members offer.
