Banner for the 2025 Academic Governance Series.

During the 2025-2026 academic year, the Faculty Senate Office will convene a series of panel discussions related to academic governance. The panels will be about the University itself: what it is for, who it serves, what it advances, who leads it and to what end. Our discussions, in other words, will be about governance as an organizational and political question. We aim to foster a campus-wide discussion about the character and conduct of the University’s mission, while also engaging a wider range of faculty in the work of faculty government.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Poster for the What Do I want in a University President. States the date of the event: Sep 3 from 4-6pm.
“The Next UM President: A Town Hall” will provide an opportunity for members of the university community to lay out their views about the priorities that the next UM president must pursue. The event seeks to help build a UM community consensus and to elevate voices that would not otherwise be heard in the search process. It will include short presentations from leaders of student, faculty and staff government, along with statements from colleagues representing key interests on campus. We will hear also from Judith Wilde, of George Mason University, whose work concerns presidential searches and how to run them.

This event is co-organized by the Faculty Senate, Central Student Government, University Staff United, and the Ann Arbor Chapter of the AAUP. The event is part of the Faculty Senate Office’s 2025 Academic Governance Series, which is a series of discussions related to academic governance at the University of Michigan.
